Maths Trail
The children really enjoyed using their 'maths eyes' on a recent Maths Trail around the school grounds. The children were busy using their measuring skills, identifying shapes, and recording various data throughout the trail.
Our Viking Longships

Sensory Nature Walk
We took advantage of the recent sunny spell and ventured on a Sensory Nature Walk. We decided to play around with our senses while exploring the School Garden. The children recorded everything they could see, hear, feel and smell. We felt the rough bark, soft grass, coarse dirt. We listened to the birds singing, the sound of the river flowing, the rustling branches, and sticks scraping the dirt. We breathed deeply, and inhaled the sweet smelling air. We even saw some rabbits and our deer friends on our walk!
Engineers Week
The children in third and fourth class had an interesting week last week with Engineers Week. We had an exciting workshop where the children developed their understanding and appreciation of engineering. We looked at engineering at home, in school and on holiday, identifying examples of engineering. We also had an intriguing discussion about the future of engineering which fascinated the children. After the presentation, the children worked in groups to create a structure as tall as possible using dried spaghetti and marshmallows.
Third class joined Junior and Senior Infants for some architectural fun on the Friday. The children displayed great co-operation and team work. Third and Fourth class also had tremendous fun with our coding robot throughout the week!

Green-Schools Eco Art Workshop
We had a Green- Schools Eco Art Workshop in February
based on the theme "Ocean Plastics" - we learned about the effects of single use plastics and had an in depth discussion about waste, recycling and composting.
We will also created our own art installation for the school to raise awareness of the issue. We created sea turtles using coffee cups.

The Egyptians
We were learning all about the Egyptians recently and we looked at lots of different death masks from Ancient Egypt. The children created their own version of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. We also managed to link our history with our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) work and the children worked in groups to build pyramids using lego, blocks etc.
WORLD SPACE WEEK
Our class had a busy few days during World Space Week. We focused on the wonders and realities of the universe around us. We used the powers of creativity, critical thinking, science and maths to help shape our understanding of life on earth and our place in space. The children did a wonderful performance for the whole school rapping 'Storybots' songs, whilst learning lots in the process! Check out their fantastic projects on various topics ranging from The Planets, to Laika the First Dog in Space, to Astronaut Fashion!
Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
Third and fourth Class have been trying really hard to be kind towards others and have been earning lots of dojo points as a result! We thoroughly enjoyed reading a charming story titled, 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today?'. It teaches us that everybody carries an invisible bucket to hold all their good thoughts and good feelings about themselves. We can choose to fill a bucket - by doing kind things for others, or we can dip into a bucket - by acting in a mean and hurtful way. The children learned the importance of kind actions in the community and the good feelings fostered by bucket filling. The children wrote summaries of the story and they are truly heartwarming to read!
Our Cosy Care Corner!
Our Haunted House Silhouette Paintings!
The children had great fun creating these spooky haunted house silhouette paintings. They are so impressive and each and every house was unique. We look forward to creating lots more wonderful artwork this term. As the children earned their 35 dojo points for good behaviour, excellent teamwork, kindness, resilience etc., they were rewarded with a Halloween party. We even had a photo shoot which was immensely fun!
