PROCLAMATION DAY: MARCH 15TH 2016
What a memorable and historic day it was on Tuesday, March 15th 2016. On this day we raised our National Flag with pride. This was the flag that had been delivered to our school the previous November. Every school in the country flew the National flag on this day and sang Amhrain na bhFiann. The youngest child in our school – Aoife, and the oldest child – Rachel, raised the flag with the help of Valerie our caretaker. Each class group then read out their “Proclamation For A New Generation”. The classes had discussed the original 1916 Proclamation and decided what elements of it were still relevant to today’s citizens and whether any new elements were needed. We were also treated to a performance of the play “An Filleadh” by fifth and sixth class and they were fantastic. Laura read “The Wayfarer” by Padraig Pearse to remind us that war is never the answer and brings a lot of sorrow. Parents and visitors were free to view the project work that the children had worked on during the year. We were all proud to be Irish on this special day. We were presented with the National flag in the November 2015 by Oglaigh na hEireann. Take a look at the lovely photos taken by Claire and Mick Behan in our archive.
