On Friday 19th June we will host a "virtual" sports day. We hope that you will all enjoy sports day at home with your family. We will post lots of ideas and videos soon to help you. We can't wait to see all the photos!
Fabulous photos are pouring in - check them out here under the photo gallery.
Planning Sports Day At Home
Hello everyone, Mr Dunne here. As you will know by now, our Sports Day will have to take place at home this year. However we want to make it just as much fun as it would be if it was like a normal Sports Day. To make this happen, we need your help and co-operation. I will be putting up lots of different activity ideas that you can do on Friday on this page. We want to see all your videos and photos - send them in to us so we can see how much fun you are all having!! The activities will be broken up into seven different events. You can try all seven or choose what levels you want to try! All the activities will be broken up into different sections and there will be videos or pictures there to help you when you try them at home.
There will also be an extra challenge from me that you can try too.
Before Friday, there a few things we can arrange for the day itself.
Shopping List and Equipment List
On Sports Day, you might get lucky and have a few goodies for the day! If this is something that you would like to do as part of the day, there is a suggested shopping list below.
Of course, because we are not in school, some of the Sports Day equipment we usually use cannot be used. That is fine! We just have to be creative! Here is a list below of items that you would have at home that can be used instead.

Sports Day Planner
After looking at all the activities that will be on this website, you can create your own planner. Below is a sheet you can print off and use to plan your day. Choose what events you did, what time you did them at and what levels you completed. This can be done with everyone in your family!

Music Playlist
I have created a music playlist, with the help of 5th and 6th class so you can listen to music in the background when you are trying out all these different activities. Just type in 'Edmondstown National School Sports Day' on Spotify.
The Events
Running
The Sprint. This can be done in a few different ways depending on where you do it! Mark out a 40m distance with cones and time yourself from start to finish. You can also do it like the video below and keep running from one end to the other until you cover a 40m distance.
This is a nice one to do with someone at home! All you need is a partner for this one. Check out the video below!
Jumping
The high jump. All you need is a wall or a fence and a marker. Jump as high as you can beside the fence or wall and mark your highest point. This can be done three times. See if you can beat your record!
The Long Jump. The long jump will be done as per video below. Make a marker from where you start. Make sure your feet are behind the marker and your hands are out straight. Try it three times before taking your best jump
Throwing
All you need is a few bottles and a ball (tennis, soft ball etc.). You have three shots and see how many bottles you can knock down in this time.
Balancing
This challenge can be done with different items at home. Try your best to keep your balance on an item at home without falling. Pretend everything around it is lava!!
Also check out one of my challenges I have set for you. That is a balancing challenge too!

Kicking
First challenge is a Kick to Score challenge. All you need is a bit of space and a wall with a few targets on it. Mark the targets that are higher on the wall as five points and the ones lower as 3. See how many you can get in five shots.
Teacher Challenges
A couple of challenges from me to try at home. I hope to see some very creative obstacle courses!!!
P.S. My toilet roll challenge didn't live up to my Active Week performance! Send in your attempts!

Traditional Sports Day
Egg and Spoon Race. Make two marks, one where you are starting and one where you're finishing. You choose the distance. Time yourself from where you start to where you finish. Do this three times and see if you can beat your time.
